NWSC wins Africa’s Water Utilities Award

On Wednesday 18th May 2016, Uganda’s National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) won the African Utility of the year 2015/2016. The award ceremony which was held in Cape Town, South Africa brought together 700 of Africa’s most power and water industry professionals to the African Utility week and Clean Power Africa.

The leading event and platform focuses on recognizing, rewarding and celebrating the success of Africa’s power and water sectors. The corporation was competing with other utilities in Africa including Moshi Urban Water and Sewerage Authority (Tanzania), Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (Kenya), Rand Water (South Africa), and Umgeni Water (South Africa).

The Utility week provided the NWSC with an opportunity to showcase its customer centered approach to business with several top managers and directors present for the Africa Utility Week.Among these were the Managing Director, Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha, Director Business &Scientific Services, Dr. Rose Kaggwa and the Manager Business Relations, Mr. Joseph Ndegeya.

Dr Silver Mugisha’s impeccable contribution to water efficiency has seen NWSC receive accolades for its outstanding work and effort towards provision of water for all. According to NWSC’s five-year Strategic Direction (2013-2018), strategic focus is put on infrastructure service delivery, increased geographical coverage, financial and operational efficiency and stake holder engagement, among others, to ensure accelerated service delivery. This has resulted insignificant increase in service coverage and supply reliability.

Commenting on the award, Mugisha thanked the public for believing in him and the management team at NWSC. “We commit to continuous improvement and innovation service delivery,” he stated.
