Integrating Oil, Gas, and Renewable Energy for a Sustainable Future: Key to Uganda’s Economy

Uganda is poised to harness its energy resources to drive economic growth and development. The upcoming Energy Convention, scheduled to take place from April 29th to 30th, 2025, at the Kampala Serena Hotel, will bring together stakeholders to discuss the integration of oil, gas, and renewable energy for a sustainable future.

Organised by the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum (UCMP), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, the Convention, themed “Integrating Oil, Gas, and Renewable Energy for a Sustainable Future,” aims to foster collaborations, shape policies, and drive the energy sector forward.

Ernest Rubondo, the Executive Director of the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the Energy Convention about integrating oil, gas, and renewable Energy for a sustainable future.

Why Integration is Key

Integrating oil, gas, and renewable energy is crucial for Uganda’s economy for several reasons, among them the following:

Diversification of Energy Sources

By combining different energy sources, Uganda can reduce its dependence on a single energy source, ensuring a more stable and reliable energy supply.

Sustainable Development

Renewable energy can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promoting sustainable development and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

Economic Growth

A diversified energy mix can drive economic growth by providing energy for industries, households, and transportation, increasing productivity and competitiveness.

Benefits of Integration

The integration of oil, gas, and renewable energy can bring numerous benefits to Uganda, including:

Increased Energy Security

By diversifying energy sources, Uganda can reduce its vulnerability to price volatility and ensure a more stable energy supply.

Job Creation

The energy sector can create jobs in exploration, production, and maintenance, contributing to economic growth and development.

Improved Energy Access

Integrating different energy sources can increase energy access, particularly in rural areas, promoting economic development and improving living standards.

The Role of Stakeholders

The Energy Convention will bring together stakeholders from various sectors, including government, industry, and civil society, to:

Exchange Insights

Share knowledge and experiences on integrating oil, gas, and renewable energy.

Foster Collaborations

Build partnerships and collaborations to drive the energy sector forward.

Shape Policies

Develop policies and regulations that support the integration of different energy sources.

Integrating oil, gas, and renewable energy is key to Uganda’s economic growth and development. The upcoming Energy Convention provides a platform for stakeholders to discuss the opportunities and challenges of integrating different energy sources, shaping policies, and driving the energy sector forward.

By working together, Uganda can harness its energy resources to create a sustainable future and drive economic growth.
