The exhibition’s theme, “Strategies, Challenges, and Best Practices for Artificial Intelligence Integration in Higher Education in Uganda,” highlighted the importance of leveraging AI in learning.
Prof. Mary Okwakol, Executive Director of NCHE, emphasized the potential of AI in addressing pressing challenges, urging higher education institutions to embrace it for achieving academic excellence.
“Artificial Intelligence is here with us, and as Higher Institutions of Learning, let us embrace it for achieving Academic excellence,” she said.
The Chief Guest, Rt. Hon. Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, appreciated MMU and other institutions for showcasing AI-integrated projects that provide everyday solutions.
“I encourage Ugandans to use AI profitably and grow our country through developing systems that will provide solutions to different issues. To our dear students, please avoid misusing AI, inasmuch as AI is advantageous, it can turn disastrous if used for the wrong motives,” he said.
MMU exhibited several innovative projects, including:
Smart Dustbin: An intelligent waste management system for enhanced cleanliness and efficiency.
Smart Lighting System: Designed to enhance accessibility, safety, and energy efficiency.
Smart Water Monitoring System: An advanced solution for optimizing water usage and ensuring quality through real-time monitoring and intelligent decision-making, plus the Smart Solar Tracking System, among other projects, demonstrating MMU’s commitment to innovative and transformative education.
According to Prof. Pius Coxwell Achanga, MMU’s Vice Chancellor, the university is dedicated to being a center of excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement for socio-economic transformation.
“At Mountains of the Moon University, we are providing innovative and transformative education through research and community engagement, and we are determined to be the Leader in this field,” he noted.
