ATC Uganda marks 10 years of successful operations in Uganda, having grown their tower count to approximately 4,000 towers and facilitating various mobile network operators and internet service providers to deliver network services to the Ugandan community.
During a stakeholder dinner held last week to celebrate their 10th anniversary, the Chief Guest and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, the Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa commended ATC Uganda for its contribution towards connecting the unconnected; citing his own home town as a beneficiary of improved connectivity since ATC built two towers there.
He urged permitting agencies to fast track and prioritize telecommunication infrastructure permits, noting that the country will not develop without embracing ICTs. He pledged to engage the Ministry of ICT to eliminate duplication in the permitting process.
ATC Uganda CEO Dorothy Kabagambe shared some key milestones in the company’s 10-year journey including progress made towards reducing costs of operations for MNOs through infrastructure sharing and installation of energy efficient power solutions at sites, such as solar and lithium ion batteries. Currently, about 60% of all sites have solar solutions deployed, with a target of hitting 70% by the end of 2023.
ATC Uganda CEO Marek Busfy commended the leadership of ATC Uganda, adding that the company will continue to invest in Uganda and the region as a whole, but most importantly, ensure that the investment is done in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
The stakeholder dinner was attended by among others, government officials from the Ministries, the telecom regulator, permitting agencies, customers, vendors, diplomats, media, among others.
