As the world marks Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28, Ecobank Uganda is taking significant strides to address period poverty and promote girls’ education.
The bank has been actively supporting the Keep a Girl in School (KAGIS) initiative in partnership with the Uganda Red Cross Society, aiming to ensure that no girl is held back by her period.
A Milestone Partnership
As a way of empowering girls and giving back to the community, Ecobank Uganda and the Uganda Red Cross Society have formalised their partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), solidifying their commitment to ending period poverty.
This collaboration is a crucial step towards improving access to affordable menstrual hygiene products and promoting girls’ education.
Supporting Local Production and Livelihoods
In a groundbreaking move, Ecobank Uganda joined the Randal Charitable Foundation and other stakeholders in commissioning a sanitary pad factory in Namakwa, Mbale district. This initiative not only enhances access to affordable menstrual hygiene products but also boosts local production and livelihoods.
Giving Back to the Community
It is important to note that this is not the first time Ecobank Uganda has given back to the community.
Last year, Ecobank distributed 500 packs of reusable sanitary pads to girls at Kitebi Secondary School during their Ecobank Day celebrations.
This gesture enabled the girls to focus on their education without interruption or shame, highlighting the bank’s dedication to supporting the community.
Call to Action
As the world commemorates Menstrual Hygiene Day, Ecobank Uganda is urging everyone to take action by working together to build a PeriodFriendlyWorld where no girl misses school because of her period.
You can support the Keep a Girl in School initiative by donating to the Ecobank KAGIS Account: 7195000778, because by promoting menstrual hygiene and supporting girls’ education, Ecobank Uganda is making a tangible impact in the community.
