
In a significant move to drive economic growth and empower manufacturers, the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) and the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) have embarked on a collaborative effort to improve service delivery and support manufacturers in Uganda.
On June 2, 2025, a delegation from UMA, led by the Executive Director, Dr. Ezra Muhumuza, met with UEDCL’s Executive Director, Mr. Paul Mwesigwa, to explore ways in which UEDCL can support manufacturers.
The meeting discussed a collaboration between the two entities, which would focus on, among others, working closely together in a bid to drive Uganda’s economic growth.
Improving Service Delivery and Reliability
The discussions between UMA and UEDCL focused on improving service delivery, enhancing supply reliability, and supporting manufacturers in their expansion projects.
UEDCL’s Managing Director, Mr. Mwesigwa, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to providing all necessary support to ensure manufacturers have access to safe, clean, and reliable energy for their production needs.
“By providing reliable energy and support, UEDCL is enabling manufacturers to increase productivity, expand operations, and improve competitiveness,” Mr. Mwesigwa told the UMA delegation during the meeting.
“This move is expected to have a positive impact on the economy, creating jobs, increasing industrial output, and improving economic competitiveness,” he added.

This collaboration, according to Mr. Mwesigwa, is a significant step towards empowering manufacturers in Uganda.
