Empowering Uganda’s Future: Stanbic Bank and Government Partner to Fight Poverty through WYF Agenda

In a landmark partnership, Stanbic Bank and the Government of Uganda have joined forces to unveil the Stanbic Women, Youth, and Farmers (WYF) agenda, a groundbreaking initiative to transform the lives of millions of Ugandans and accelerate economic growth.

The partnership will see Stanbic Bank inject at least Shs1 trillion into agricultural projects being undertaken by Women, Youth, and Farmers in Uganda at the grassroots level, unlocking access to affordable credit and building sustainable livelihoods.

The revelation was made by Domani Kitabire, the Stanbic Bank Board Chairman, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, during the Stanbic Consumer Thought Leadership Conference, which was held at Kampala Serena Conference Centre, themed ‘Accelerating the Momentum of Agro-Industrialisation’.

“This falls within our Women, Youth and Farmers (WYF) agenda. Between now and 2028, we are committing Shs1 trillion to this agenda, not as bankers but as partners in the transformation of Uganda’s rural economy,” Mr. Kitabire said during the conference.

“We believe agriculture remains our most potent path to inclusive growth and is the foundation for our Women, Youth and Farmers agenda,” he added.

 Unlocking Access to Affordable Credit

The Stanbic WYF agenda is designed to address the pressing issue of limited access to finance for women, youth, and smallholder farmers in Uganda.

According to Kitabire, by providing affordable credit, the initiative will enable these groups to invest in their businesses, increase productivity, and improve their overall well-being.

Kitabire noted that this aligns with the Government’s National Development Plan (NDP IV), which aims to promote inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Boosting Agriculture and Economic Growth

Agriculture is a vital sector of Uganda’s economy, employing millions of people and contributing significantly to the country’s GDP.

As such, the Stanbic WYF agenda recognises the importance of agriculture in driving economic growth and poverty reduction.

By supporting women, youth, and smallholder farmers, the initiative will help to increase agricultural productivity, improve food security, and promote economic growth.

A Key Driver of Economic Transformation

The Stanbic WYF agenda is a key driver of economic transformation in Uganda. By empowering women, youth, and smallholder farmers, the initiative will help to unlock the country’s economic potential and promote sustainable development.

This partnership between Stanbic Bank and the Government of Uganda demonstrates a shared commitment to transforming the lives of Ugandans and driving economic growth.

The Stanbic WYF agenda is thus a groundbreaking initiative that has the potential to transform the lives of millions of Ugandans when it gets implemented.

By unlocking access to affordable credit and supporting women, youth, and smallholder farmers, the initiative will help to drive economic growth, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable development.

In essence, with a commitment of Shs1 trillion, Stanbic Bank and the Government of Uganda are poised to make a significant impact on the country’s economy and improve the lives of its citizens.
