Pioneering Sustainable Finance for Smallholder Farmers and Agribusinesses
This week, Publicist East Africa proudly features Mona Muguma Ssebuliba, Chief Executive Officer of aBi Finance Limited, as our Captain of Industry a leader who is proving that financial innovation, when anchored in sustainability and inclusion, can power lasting socio-economic transformation.
At a time when agriculture remains Uganda’s backbone yet faces mounting climate and financing challenges, Mona is boldly repositioning development finance to empower smallholder farmers, promote green practices, and unlock new opportunities for women, youth, and underserved communities.
Under Mona’s leadership, aBi Finance has launched Uganda’s first-ever green challenge fund and dedicated green finance products aimed specifically at agribusinesses and farmers. These initiatives are not just financial instruments they are lifelines for resilience, enabling rural entrepreneurs to access capital for environmentally sustainable projects that can withstand the pressures of climate change.
Mona’s work ensures that Uganda’s transition to a green economy is locally driven, inclusive, and practical, giving rural communities the tools they need to adapt, grow, and thrive.
Mona’s vision is distinctly inclusive. Beyond environmental sustainability, she has prioritized expanding access to finance for women-led businesses, youth entrepreneurs, refugee communities, and historically marginalized regions like Northern and Eastern Uganda.
Through tailored financial products and capacity-building programs, Mona is closing opportunity gaps and positioning finance as a tool for empowerment, not exclusion. Her leadership is deeply aligned with SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
Mona’s influence is evident not only at aBi Finance but also in her diverse board positions across various sectors, encompassing Stanbic Properties Limited, Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited, Stanbic Bank Group Securities, Renewable Energy Business Incubator (REBi), and Women’s Leadership Development (WLEDE).
Through these roles, she contributes to strategic decision-making across finance, real estate, energy, and gender equity sectors, helping to shape the future of Uganda’s economy in multiple dimensions.
Her academic foundation an MBA from the Edinburgh Business School, a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Makerere University Business School, and advanced leadership training from Strathmore Business School and Gordon Institute of Business Science reflects her commitment to continuous learning and world-class leadership standards.
Currently enrolled in the Advanced Management Program at Strathmore and pursuing a Coaching Diploma with Career Connections, Mona exemplifies a leader who never stops growing personally or professionally.

Her ability to blend commercial discipline with deep social responsibility has made her a beacon for what inclusive green finance can achieve in Uganda and beyond.
