Stanbic Bank has made a contribution of UGX150m to Makerere University as the institution marks 100 years of service to humanity.
The UGX 150m cash donation is expected to boost activities lined up by the university ahead of the official “Makerere At 100” October celebrations. The activities include public lectures, conferences, and MAK run among others.
Speaking at the handover event, Makerere University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, applauded Stanbic Bank for its consistent partnership with the university which has helped it to move to new heights. He pointed out the recently launched Laptop loan Scheme designed for Makerere Students and staff which helps them acquire laptops on hire purchase basis. This, he noted, will go a long way in accelerating the e-learning process which the university has been pushing especially with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Anne Juuko, the Chief Executive at Stanbic Bank Uganda mentioned that the bank is exceptionally proud of their partnership with Makerere, adding: “Makerere occupies a special place in our hearts because it taught us so many things still relevant to date. As a proud alumnus, I will forever be a great ambassador of the institution.
“We have contributed Ugx 150m towards #MakerereAt100 celebrations and that is not all. We will continue supporting the University in kind. I must reiterate our continued collaboration with Makerere University. As Stanbic Bank, we are committed to growing this partnership.”
Makerere University’s celebration of 100 years marks the end of a century of excellence, and offers a chance to look beyond, and see how to participate in “Leveraging the 100 Years of Excellence in Building a Transformed Society.”
