Uganda Breweries Ltd was on Thursday crowned the gold winner of the 16th edition of the Employer of the Year 2021/22 at Serena Hotel, Kampala.
“We are proud to announce that we were named Employer of the Year 2022 by the prestigious Federation of Uganda Employers (FUE) during an awards ceremony held yesterday at the Kampala Serena Hotel.” a statement from UBL said.
UBL took the gold prize followed by Quality-Chemical-Cipla with silver and Uganda National Road Authority won the bronze.
“This is the second time within one year that Uganda Breweries has been recognized as the best work place in the country following the honoring, we received at the Prudential Best HR Awards ceremony earlier this year where we won big as well.” the statement continued.
As a business that has championed inclusion and diversity, individual employee development and team building over the years, the award is a mark that such policies at the work place not only help us uncover the potential of all but also value human resource in every form, and positions workers to better exploit their capabilities – the award is a revelation that we are making strides in the right direction.
Last year, the brewery committed to creating the most inclusive workplace recruiting ten talented young people with disabilities for six months of work experience placement roles. This was a commitment we made in December on the International Day of People with Disabilities.
“We have also shattered stereotypes at the workplace by employing women in production processes that were previously men’s stronghold. Currently, one of our production lines, is managed by a 75% female staff, with a production capacity of over 25,000 bottles a day.” Rosemary Nakuya, the Ag Human Resource Director said while receiving the award.
In addition to the above, we rolled out the first ever all female commercial graduate program that led to the recruitment of 7 ladies in the first cohort as an opportunity to inspire more girls to take up positions of leadership at the brewery. The purpose of the program is to develop a sustainable pool of young ladies for future senior roles.
Not to mention our efforts in the COVID-19 pandemic, where we rolled out an online e-learning platform named “My learning hub” that has enhanced our performance management, improved learning, driven greater efficiencies turning the brewery into a more productive workplace.
