Through innovative energy solutions and reforestation initiatives, UBL has significantly reduced its carbon footprint, setting a shining example for other companies to follow.
Reforestation Efforts: A Step Towards a Greener Future
UBL’s dedication to environmental conservation is evident in its reforestation initiatives. In partnership with Rotary International Uganda, the company embarked on a remarkable tree-planting campaign in 2019, planting over 3,000 indigenous trees on 60 hectares of land in the Gangu Forest Reserve.
This effort built upon a previous campaign in 2018, where UBL planted trees on 40 hectares of the same reserve, contributing to the restoration of 100 hectares of vital forest ecosystem.
Innovative Energy Solutions: A Significant Reduction in Carbon Emission
UBL’s commitment to environmental sustainability extends beyond reforestation. The company has made significant strides in reducing its environmental impact through innovative energy solutions. By switching from fossil fuels to Biomass Steam, UBL has reduced its carbon emission by an impressive 92%. This remarkable achievement is equivalent to 8,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The Biomass Plant: A Symbol of UBL’s Commitment to Sustainability
The Biomass plant, constructed at a cost of Shs37 billion, represents UBL’s dedication to cleaner energy. By using renewable resources like agricultural waste, the plant supports Uganda’s broader sustainability goals. While commissioning the plant, UBL Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo emphasized the company’s commitment to operating in a sustainable environment.
Uganda Breweries Limited‘s commitment to environmental sustainability is therefore a shining example for other companies to follow.
