Uganda’s Young Engineers Shine on Global Stage: A Story of Innovation and Determination

In the world of robotics, Uganda is making its mark! A team of eight young innovators from Young Engineers Uganda on Tuesday embarked on a journey to the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas, representing their country with pride and determination.

This prestigious global competition brings together the most talented young robotics teams from across the world, and Uganda’s participation is a testament to the country’s growing commitment to STEM education and technological advancement.

Road to the Championship

The team, led by Allen Nanyonjo, Head of Curriculum at Young Engineers Uganda, earned their place at the championship after excelling at the Uganda National STEM Education and Robotics Championship held last November.

With over 300 children from 25 different schools participating, the national event showcased the country’s burgeoning talent in robotics and STEM fields.

Global Celebration of Robotics Excellence

The VEX Robotics World Championship, which runs from May 6 to May 14, 2025, is the largest robotics competition in the world, attracting over 60 countries and more than 50,000 participants.

Uganda’s representatives will compete in the VEX V5 Robotics Competition: High Stakes, with the Arcorns Legends team battling 60 teams from around the world in the Innovation category.

Notably, Uganda is the only African team competing in this category, a significant achievement for the nation’s growing robotics sector.

Young Engineers Uganda: Launchpad for Innovation

Young Engineers Uganda, part of the African School of Innovation, Science and Technology, has been dedicated to advancing STEM education among children and young learners in Uganda since 2016.

The program fosters skills in robotics, engineering, programming, and creative problem-solving, equipping young innovators with the knowledge needed for the future of technology.

Through various initiatives, Young Engineers Uganda, which is under the stewardship of legendary Ugandan journalist and entrepreneur Arinaitwe Rugyendo, has successfully nurtured a community of young minds eager to experiment, invent, and compete on global platforms.
