The launch of the Uganda Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) campaign is poised to revolutionize the business environment in Uganda.
While launching the campaign at Mestil Hotel in Kampala on Thursday, Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for ICT, who was flanked by Dr. Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of ICT, revealed that the campaign aims to guide companies and position Uganda as a leading BPO destination by creating jobs, empowering youth and women, and fostering private sector development.
“The key objectives of BPO include strengthening private sector participation, promoting innovation, developing a future-ready workforce through public-private partnerships, and ensuring equitable opportunities for marginalized groups,” Baryomunsi noted.
He stressed that by positioning Uganda as a leading BPO destination, the campaign aims to create jobs, empower youth and women, and foster private sector development.
One of the key benefits of BPO is its potential to create employment opportunities.
With a projected 100,000 jobs in the pipeline, the BPO sector is expected to play a significant role in addressing Uganda’s youth unemployment challenge. This will not only improve livelihoods but also contribute to the country’s economic growth.
Key Objectives of BPO
Strengthening private sector participation
By encouraging private sector investment, BPO will help drive economic growth and development.
Promoting innovation
BPO will foster a culture of innovation, as companies will be encouraged to adopt new technologies and processes.
Developing a future-ready workforce
Through public-private partnerships, BPO will help develop a skilled and adaptable workforce.
Ensuring equitable opportunities
BPO will promote equitable opportunities for marginalized groups, including youth and women.
The government’s commitment to supporting the growth of the BPO sector is evident in the significant progress made in improving digital infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and training programs. With the implementation of this policy, Uganda is ready to thrive in an increasingly competitive global landscape.
Overall, the BPO campaign is a game-changer for Uganda’s business environment, offering numerous benefits, including job creation, innovation, and economic growth.
As the country continues to navigate the complexities of the global economy, the BPO sector is poised to play a vital role in driving Uganda’s economic development.
