Pride Bank, under the stewardship of Edward Nkangi, the Executive Director, over the weekend held a stakeholder dinner to mark a significant achievement in its journey, celebrating its transformation from a Tier III microfinance institution to a Tier II credit institution.
The stakeholder dinner, held at the Serena Hotel, Kampala, which was graced by Hon. Matia Kasaija, the Minister of Finance, brought together partners, clients, staff, and friends to recognise this major milestone.
Nkangi revealed at the dinner that this new status allows the institution to offer a wider array of financial solutions.
These include competitive savings products, enhanced credit facilities, and expanded digital banking services.
He noted that Pride Bank is committed to financial inclusion, aiming to reach more customers with impactful banking solutions.
In his remarks, Hon. Fred Jachan Omach, the Board Chair, Pride Bank, said, “This goes beyond banking; it encompasses trust, identity, equity, and how financial systems shape lives. Our role is to lend not just capital, but also confidence and support for dreams.”
“At Pride Bank, we believe leadership must be rooted in truth, in values, and courage. Like music, these principles may start quietly, but they grow, and when amplified by collective will, they move nations,” he added.
A Momentous Occasion
The evening was filled with celebration, great music, and inspiring reflections. Minister Kasaija honoured the event with his presence, joining the Pride Bank management and staff in recognising this significant leap forward.
“Today, we celebrate 30 years of Pride Bank, a true symbol of Uganda’s transformation journey. From a humble microfinance institution to a fully-fledged bank for all Ugandans, this is not just growth; it’s resilience, inclusivity, and vision in action,” Kasaija said.
He added that, “Our national vision is clear: transform Uganda from a peasant society into a modern, prosperous nation. Pride Bank’s commitment to inclusive, customer-focused banking proves that with the right mindset, no one is too small to grow big.” The Minister’s presence underscored the importance of this milestone in the bank’s journey.
New Era of Inclusive Banking
Pride Bank’s elevation to a Tier II credit institution marks a new era of inclusive banking, with increased capacity to serve its customers and contribute to the country’s economic growth. The bank’s commitment to inclusive banking is evident in its efforts to provide financial services to underserved communities.
