Team MTN Uganda, led by Sylvia Mulinge, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this week took its flagship staff volunteerism initiative, the 21 Days of YelloCare, to the Alur Kingdom in Pakwach District, demonstrating its commitment to community development and social responsibility.
The initiative focuses on healthcare, digital inclusion, and youth empowerment, aligning with the company’s mission to make a positive impact on the lives of Ugandans.
According to Mulinge, this latest development builds on MTN Uganda’s growing partnership with the Alur Kingdom, including ongoing efforts to use sports as a platform for raising awareness about child marriage and teenage pregnancy.
Improving Healthcare Service Delivery
During the initiative, MTN Uganda staff and partners worked together to improve healthcare service delivery at Alwi Health Centre III.
The team carried out the following activities as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign:
Renovations
They renovated the facility’s kitchen and sanitation blocks in a bid to enhance the overall infrastructure of the health centre and improve hygiene standards.
Installing rainwater harvesting system
In a bid to ensure the availability of water, MTN staff installed a sustainable source for the harvesting of clean rainwater for the health centre.
Donated hospital beds
As a way of increasing the health centre’s capacity to provide quality healthcare services to more people, MTN Uganda donated an assortment of medical beds to the health centre.
Planted trees
To promote environmental sustainability, the team planted trees as a way of enhancing the environment and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.
Enhancing Power Supply
In partnership with the ATC Uganda Office, MTN Uganda also installed solar lighting at the health centre, ensuring a steady power supply. This is particularly crucial during childbirth and emergency cases and other operations, where reliable lighting can be a matter of life and death.
Building on Existing Partnerships
This initiative builds on MTN Uganda’s growing partnership with the Alur Kingdom, which includes ongoing efforts to use sports as a platform for raising awareness about child marriage and teenage pregnancy.
The company remains committed to working with local communities and stakeholders to drive positive change and promote sustainable development.
The 21 Days of YelloCare initiative is a testament to MTN Uganda’s commitment to community development and social responsibility.
By empowering communities through volunteerism and partnerships, the company is making a tangible impact on the lives of Ugandans, particularly in the areas of healthcare, digital inclusion, and youth empowerment.
As MTN Uganda continues to drive positive change, its efforts are likely to have a lasting impact on the communities it serves.
