During a joint operation on Sunday at around 9 PM, Police in Kampala has arrested seven suspects for gathering in an apartment and drinking alcohol, contrary to the Ministry of Health guidelines to combat Covid-19 in the country.
This was after receiving a complaint from one of the news dailies alleging that a lot of people would gather in a certain apartment located in Balintuma village near Firidina Road drinking with loud music disrupting the peace of “wanaichi” and also defying the Presidential directives” said Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson
Currently, all the arrested suspects are detained at Kira Road Police on allegations of disobedience lawful orders and also doing a negligent act likely to spread and infection of disease.
In a related operation, Kabalagala Police also carried out an operation on enforcing the ministry’s guidelines in Bunga at Nomads Bar where 49 people were arrested.
Owoyesigyire said that the suspects who are currently detained at Kabalagala police station, include the owner of the bar Fred Kamau and his 8 managers.
On Friday, Uganda confirmed 318 cases, the highest number of cases confirmed in a single day in the country. This has left Ugandans panicking and some have already started anticipating that the government is going to issue a second lockdown during the next presidential address,
Ever since the lockdown was lifted and public transport resumed, the number of COVID-19 infections in Uganda has since gone upwards on a daily basis. This has also seen Uganda register its first coronavirus deaths, the number totaling to 19 as of today.
