Uganda’s Oil and Gas Sector Takes Strategic Step Forward as UNOC Engages with Acholi Chiefdom

The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) has taken a significant step towards accelerating the development of the country’s oil and gas sector by engaging with the Acholi Chiefdom.

Tony Otoa, the Chief Corporate Officer (CCO) of UNOC, held a stakeholder engagement meeting this week with Rwot David Onen Acana, the Paramount Chief of the Acholi Chiefdom, to discuss potential partnerships between the two entities.

The meeting, attended by Damalie Owori, Director of Operations at Wealth Creation (OWC), along with officials from Kijana Forestry and the National Forestry Authority (NFA), highlighted the importance of collaboration and partnership in driving development in Uganda’s oil and gas sector.

Otoa told the meeting that, “By working together, UNOC and the Acholi Chiefdom can leverage each other’s strengths and expertise to accelerate the growth of the sector.”

Accelerating Uganda’s Oil and Gas Sector

He noted that the partnership between UNOC and the Acholi Chiefdom is expected to have a positive impact on Uganda’s oil and gas sector.

The partnership between the Acholi Chiefdom and UNOC is aimed at, among other objectives, achieving;

Promoting local content

The partnership will promote local content and participation in the oil and gas sector, which is expected to create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

Enhancing community engagement

The partnership will also enhance community engagement and participation in the oil and gas sector, which is critical for ensuring that the benefits of oil and gas development are shared equitably among all stakeholders.

Fostering sustainable development

The partnership intends to foster sustainable development in the oil and gas sector by promoting environmentally friendly practices and ensuring that the sector contributes to Uganda’s economic growth and development.

The meeting between UNOC and the Acholi Chiefdom is a significant step towards accelerating the development of Uganda’s oil and gas sector.

By working together, the two entities can promote local content, enhance community engagement, and foster sustainable development in the sector.
