Centenary Bank Moves to Bolster Financial Inclusion With Interswitch Quickteller Partnership

Centenary Bank on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, launched its Interswitch Quickteller Agent Service, in a landmark move set to redefine financial accessibility across Uganda.

This strategic partnership, unveiled at a high-profile ceremony at the Centenary Bank headquarters in Kampala, marks a significant leap forward in the bank’s deep-seated commitment to financial inclusion, leveraging technology to bring essential banking services closer to every Ugandan.

The launch event was graced by key figures, including Dr. Fabian Kasi, Managing Director of Centenary Bank, alongside Mr. Moris Sseguya, Country General Manager for Interswitch Uganda, and Mr. Simon Senyonga, Centenary Bank’s Acting General Manager for Retail, Banking and Distribution.

Banking Beyond the Branch

Dr. Kasi passionately reaffirmed Centenary Bank’s dedication to making banking accessible for all.

“As you can see, our plan may be characterised as being ambitious, but we know that we can’t do this alone; we believe in the power of partnerships,” he stated, highlighting the bank’s enduring collaboration with Interswitch.

This year marks a pivotal new chapter in that relationship, with Interswitch formally onboarded as a corporate agent under Centenary Bank’s robust agent banking model.

This collaboration immediately expands Centenary Bank’s reach by close to 50%, granting customers access to banking services across Interswitch’s extensive network of over 20,000 agents nationwide.

“We know that this partnership is a demonstration that our motivation as Centenary Bank goes beyond profit and numbers,” Dr. Kasi expounded.

“Rather, we are in business to serve real people, doing real business; like the market vendor in the rural area who no longer has to spend time physically getting to a bank or a business owner who can now manage their money even outside regular banking hours,” he observed.

He emphasised the modern imperative for convenience, saying, “In today’s fast-moving world, convenience isn’t a luxury; it’s what people expect, and this is what we’ve set out to deliver. We’re therefore leveraging technology to create a seamless banking experience.”

Dr. Kasi concluded by expressing gratitude to Interswitch, stating, “Together, we’re building a stronger and more connected financial system for Uganda. And to our customers, banking has just gotten easier.”

Commitment to Uganda’s Financial Ecosystem

Mr. Sseguya, Interswitch’s Country General Manager, echoed Dr. Kasi’s sentiments, expressing profound gratitude for the trust placed in Interswitch as a technology partner.

“This strategic partnership with Centenary Bank means we are expanding the banking footprint that all Centenary Bank customers can access by close to 50%,” Mr. Sseguya reiterated.

“A Centenary Bank customer will be able to enjoy all the services that they would enjoy in the bank branch, with almost or close to the same experience,” he added.

He highlighted the core benefit of the partnership, noting, “We’re trying to unlock additional convenience, reliability, and access to ensure that even the areas that one would think are underserved, or very remote, can be able to access these services at arm’s length. At Interswitch, we’re proud to deepen our commitment to Uganda, our home, through this partnership. Together, we’re working to make everyday banking effortless and inclusive, building a stronger financial ecosystem for all.”

The Interswitch Quickteller Agent Service promises to revolutionise daily banking for millions, particularly those in underserved communities.

By bringing services closer to the people, Centenary Bank is not only enhancing customer convenience but also playing a crucial role in accelerating Uganda’s social and economic growth through wider financial inclusion.
