Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit Targets Uganda’s 75% Youth Unemployment Crisis

In a decisive response to Uganda’s critical challenge of youth unemployment, estimated at a staggering 75%, Stanbic Bank Uganda is launching the inaugural Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit 2025.

Slated for December 11, 2025, at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the summit is a high-impact strategic intervention designed to convert digital creativity into sustainable careers and formal employment.

This initiative is directly aligned with the bank’s core mission to grow Uganda’s economy and execute its Women, Youth, and Farmers (WYF) Agenda.

By focusing on the digital space, the bank aims to fuel socio-economic transformation among Uganda’s vast youth population, establishing digital skills as a viable path to wealth creation.

Bridging the Unemployment Gap through Digital Skills

The Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit recognises that the digital economy is a powerful avenue for empowering the youth, a critical demographic within the bank’s WYF focus. By professionalising the content creation space, Stanbic is creating clear pathways for young people to become entrepreneurs, contributors to the formal economy, and innovators.

The Summit’s main objectives are directly geared toward improving the livelihoods of Ugandan youth through:

Capacity Building and Skilling: Providing essential training to ensure creators can produce high-quality, professional content.

Income Generation: Opening up opportunities to increase their chances of earning income through their creative work, moving them into the formal financial ecosystem.

Regulatory Compliance: Streamlining the content creators’ community to align with national regulatory policies, thereby increasing their credibility and access to formal business financing.

Cybercrime and Financial Hurdles

The Summit will tackle two major categories of hurdles faced by digital creators: financial/market access issues and the pervasive dangers of the digital environment. Stanbic and its partners, including the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), intend to address these challenges head-on.

Combating Cybercrime and Digital Threats

The Summit will host critical discussions and capacity building to address the negative elements that undermine the digital space, some of which include:

Cybercrime: Educating creators on how to protect themselves and their content from fraud, cyberbullying, clickbaiting, and copyright infringement.

Misinformation/Disinformation: Discussing ethical content creation and the critical role creators play in combating the spread of false information, strengthening the integrity of the Ugandan digital space.

Overcoming Financial and Access Barriers

Discussions will also focus on finding solutions to the systemic challenges that prevent creators from scaling their businesses, which include but are not limited to the following:

Monetisation Challenges: Addressing the inability of many creators to monetise their digital content and access international payment systems effectively.

Data and Equipment Costs: Discussing the issue of high data costs and the inability to afford modern equipment, which serve as major barriers to entry and quality production.

Access to Digital Markets: Creating linkages to broaden access to regional and global digital markets for Ugandan content.

Platform for Stakeholder Synergy

The Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit is designed to be a crucial bridge, bringing together the entire digital ecosystem under one roof:

Digital Content Creators: The talent and business drivers.

Regulators (UCC): To clarify policy and encourage responsible growth while combating cyber threats.

Telecom Service Providers: To address connectivity and data affordability issues.

Thought Leaders and Partners: To share best practices and investment opportunities.

This synergistic approach ensures that any solutions developed are holistic and supported by all necessary stakeholders, guaranteeing a more inclusive and transformative future for Uganda’s digital economy and reinforcing Stanbic Bank’s mission to foster growth for all its key demographics.
