At the Brand Africa Awards held on August 15, 2025, Stanbic Bank was honoured with two prestigious accolades: Most Admired Brand-Banking and Most Admired Brand-Financial Services.
These awards are a recognition of the bank’s pivotal role in Uganda’s economy, a role that goes far beyond traditional banking services. The accolades highlight Stanbic’s deliberate and strategic alignment with Uganda’s national development goals, particularly its Women, Youth, and Farmers (WYF) agenda.
A Strategy Aligned with National Development
While Stanbic’s commercial success is a key factor in its brand admiration, its true impact lies in its targeted initiatives that directly address the government’s economic priorities.
The bank has demonstrated its commitment to national development by strategically focusing on key, underserved demographics. Stanbic has a multi-pronged approach to its WYF agenda, including:
Massive Financial Commitment
According to Francis Karuhanga, the Chief Executive, Stanbic Bank Holdings Uganda Limited (SBHUL), Stanbic has allocated Shs1 trillion to empower women, youth, and farmers. This substantial investment, which directly supports national programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM), is designed to provide affordable credit and capacity building to those at the grassroots level.

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs
The Stanbic for Her program offers women entrepreneurs not only affordable credit but also non-financial support, including education, market information, and networking opportunities. This initiative is designed to empower women to start, grow, and sustain their businesses.
Investing in the Youth
The bank runs the National Schools Championship, a flagship program that has impacted over 500,000 young people by fostering entrepreneurial skills, innovation, and digital literacy. Stanbic’s Business Incubator also trains and mentors young entrepreneurs, helping them turn innovative ideas into viable businesses.
Supporting Farmers
Recognising agriculture as the backbone of the economy, Stanbic offers a wide range of financial solutions, including loans for primary production, agro-processing, and equipment acquisition.
The bank’s Albertine Development Program has trained smallholder farmers in the region on best practices to enhance their productivity and access to markets.
A Win for Both Brand and Nation
The Brand Africa awards ceremony, officiated by Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga, who urged brands to embrace the national digital vision, was a fitting backdrop for Stanbic’s triumph.
The bank’s success shows that a brand can build immense value and admiration by contributing to a nation’s progress. As a non-Ugandan entity, Stanbic has demonstrated a unique level of commitment to its host country by actively participating in its socio-economic transformation.
By backing national development goals and empowering vital sectors of the population, Stanbic Bank has not only cemented its position as a leading financial institution but has also earned the trust and admiration of Ugandans, proving that a brand’s success is truly measured by the impact it creates.
