Uganda Crowned Global Leader in South-South Cooperation at World Food Forum

Uganda has achieved significant international recognition at the prestigious World Food Forum’s (WFF) flagship event in Rome, Italy, where the country was honoured as an outstanding global leader in the implementation of the South-South Cooperation Project.

The award, announced during the forum running from October 10 to 17, 2025, underscores the nation’s profound commitment to transforming agrifood systems and driving sustainable development through collaborative efforts with other developing countries.

Testament to Partnership and Innovation

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), Maj. Gen. David Kasura Kyomukama proudly received the award on behalf of Uganda.

According to Maj. Gen. Kasura, the recognition highlights Uganda’s dedication to fostering partnerships, sharing expertise, and successfully implementing innovative approaches that contribute to global food security.

The South-South Cooperation Project is a vital mechanism that aims to enhance food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture by facilitating collaborative knowledge-sharing and technical cooperation among developing nations. Uganda’s success in executing this project serves as a compelling model for other countries facing similar agrifood challenges.

Hon. Kyakulaga Fred Bwino, the Minister of State for Agriculture, who is leading the high-level Ugandan delegation to Rome, expressed deep gratitude for the honour.

He further reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with global partners to effectively address the world’s most pressing food security issues.

Mr. Julius Twinamasiko, the Project Coordinator, was also in attendance, symbolising the dedicated team effort behind this national achievement.
