Uganda Civil Aviation Authority Boosts Security Collaboration with Police and Prisons Senior Command

The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA)  on Tuesday hosted a high-level delegation from the Uganda Police’s Senior Command and Staff College, Bwebajja, at Entebbe International Airport.

The visit was specifically designed to provide members of the Uganda Police Force and Uganda Prisons Service, ranging from the rank of Commissioner to Senior Superintendent, with an in-depth understanding of aviation security operations and airport policing procedures.

The engagement aimed to enhance the senior officers’ comprehension and appreciation of the intricate aviation security protocols vital for safeguarding airport environments.

During his address on “The critical role of security at the airport,” Eng. Ayub Sooma, the Director of Airports and Aviation Security, emphasised the contributions of the Aviation Security (AVSEC) and Aviation Police (AVPOL) teams in ensuring the safety and security of Entebbe International Airport.

Flanked by Aviation Security Manager, Brig. Gen. Mike Kisame, Eng. Sooma expressed his gratitude for the visit, acknowledging the significant value of such partnerships in upholding efficient state security standards.

Mr. Emmanuel Barungi, the General Manager of Entebbe International Airport, reiterated the airport’s unwavering commitment to fostering strong relationships with all security agencies.

He highlighted that these collaborations are crucial for ensuring the safety of passengers, operators, equipment, staff, the airport’s surrounding community, and mitigating threats such as Man-Portable Air-Defence Systems (MANPADS).

Dr. Barbara Alungat, the Assistant Commissioner of Police and Commandant of the Senior Command and  Staff College, extended her appreciation to the leadership of UCAA and the airport management team for hosting the delegation.

She underscored the importance of sharing vital security experiences within the aviation industry, noting that such insights will contribute significantly to developing the strategic command, leadership, supervisory, and research competencies of the senior officers.

The visit concluded with a comprehensive inspection of services and facilities within the terminal building, led by Commissioner of Police, Paul Kakamba, the Chief of Joint Security Operations.

This hands-on experience further solidified the officers’ understanding of the practical application of aviation security measures.
