UEGCL and Ghana’s Bui Power Authority Unveil  Landmark Collaboration

A significant step towards bolstering Africa’s sustainable energy future was taken today on the sidelines of the AFRICA 2025 Hydropower and Dams Conference in Accra.

The Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) and Ghana’s Bui Power Authority officially sealed a landmark partnership, promising to accelerate energy development across the continent.

Dr. Harrison E. Mutikanga, the CEO of UEGCL, and Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam, the CEO of Bui Power Authority, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to foster extensive technical exchange and collaboration between the two leading African power utilities.

Strategic Collaboration

This strategic MoU lays crucial groundwork for joint efforts across several key areas which include but are not limited to the following:

Advancing Sustainable Energy Development

By pooling expertise and resources, both entities aim to drive the development of new, environmentally responsible power generation projects.

Knowledge Transfer

The collaboration will facilitate the sharing of best practices, operational insights, and technical know-how in hydropower generation and dam management.

Capacity Building

It will also enable both Uganda and Ghana to invest in the skills and capabilities of their respective workforces through joint training programs and expert exchanges.

The collaboration between UEGCL, a key player in Uganda’s growing energy sector, and Bui Power Authority, Ghana’s influential renewable energy generator, highlights a shared vision for a self-sufficient and sustainably powered Africa.

This partnership is expected to unlock new efficiencies, drive innovation, and ultimately contribute to a more reliable and affordable electricity supply across both nations and potentially the wider region.

It serves as a powerful example of how African institutions are taking the lead in powering the continent’s future.

The AFRICA 2025 Hydropower and Dams Conference in Accra is a proven business platform to exchange experience and enable open-minded discussion about the role of Hydropower in economic development.

The 3-day technical exhibition that started on July 8th to 10th, 2025, aims at showcasing the most active and innovative companies in the hydropower and dams industry worldwide.
