Uganda is intensifying its global outreach to diversify tourism markets and attract crucial foreign investment. In a strategic move, Ms. Juliana Kagwa, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), is currently leading a high-profile government and private sector delegation at the Pearl of Africa Business Forum, Indonesia Chapter.
Organised by Uganda’s foreign mission in Indonesia, this high-level event is designed to forge robust Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) partnerships between Uganda and the Southeast Asian economic powerhouse.
According to Ms. Kagwa, this forum is a key component of Uganda’s broader economic diplomacy agenda, strategically aimed at strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and tourism linkages.
It signifies Uganda’s commitment to unlocking new visitor markets and leveraging international partnerships for sustained economic growth.

Showcasing the Pearl of Africa
During her engagements at the forum, Ms. Kagwa held crucial meetings with key Indonesian government officials, potential investors, and influential travel trade partners. In these sessions, she has passionately highlighted Uganda’s immense potential as a premier tourism destination.
The Pearl of Business Forum has provided an invaluable platform for effectively showcasing the “Explore Uganda” brand.
This initiative is strategically positioning Uganda as a compelling destination for diverse tourism experiences, including:
Eco-tourism
Leveraging Uganda’s rich biodiversity and commitment to sustainable practices.
Adventure Tourism
Capitalising on unique offerings like gorilla trekking, white-water rafting, and mountaineering.
Cultural Experiences
Promoting the nation’s vibrant heritage, diverse communities, and historical sites.
Unlocking Future Collaborations and Growth
The UTB’s participation in the Indonesian forum is expected to unlock a myriad of future collaborations, some of which include:
Familiarisation Trips
This will include bringing Indonesian travel agents and media to experience Uganda firsthand, fostering direct understanding and promotion.
Joint Marketing Initiatives
Collaborating on campaigns to raise Uganda’s profile within the Indonesian market.
Knowledge Exchange
Sharing best practices in tourism development, sustainability, and marketing between the two nations.
By actively engaging with Indonesia, Uganda is not only seeking to increase tourist arrivals but also to attract investments into its hospitality and tourism infrastructure.
This strategic focus on new and emerging markets like Indonesia is vital for diversifying Uganda’s tourism portfolio, reducing reliance on traditional source markets, and building a more resilient and globally competitive tourism sector.
The success of this mission will be a testament to Uganda’s proactive approach in positioning the country as a top-tier destination on the world stage.
